Do you fancy yourself as a bit of a gaming enthusiast and want to build a shiny new rig with the best components on the market? What's that? You need to know what the best RAM for gaming is?
Well, look no further! We've got you covered.
Before we get into the list, we warn you that it might not be the cheapest RAM on the market… that's for another post!
Without further ado, let's get on with it.
Top 5 RAM for Gaming 2019
1. Corsair Vengeance RGB
Technical Specifications of RAM Reviewed
Tested Latency | 16-18-18-35 |
Memory Type | DDR4 |
Memory Size | 16GB |
Voltage | 1.2V |
Format | Unbuffered DIMM |
Memory Clock Speed | 2,666 MHz |
Topping our list, and for very good reasons, is Corsair. This well known brand has outdone themselves with the Corsair Vengeance RGB 16GB RAM sticks.
Not only are they tailored for people who love high-performance RAM, but they also have an easy to use RGB setup. So you can have the best of both worlds with power and style, not something that comes along very frequently.
Speaking of performance, we don't simply mean the speed of the RAM. There are other features, such ass the robust head spreaders that make full use of the cooling available for this RAM. It also means, for super enthusiasts who love to overclock that you'll have a fair amount of headroom before thermals become an issue for you.
But the list of features doesn't stop there, the Vengeance RGB DDR4 series also comes equipped with CL16 latency and whopping 3,466 MHz speeds. This just goes to show how much of a performance and aesthetic combination you are getting with this gaming RAM.
Going back to overclocking quickly, this RAM kit also supports XMP 2.0. This means you will get an automatic selection of the maximum reliable overclocking settings for the best mix of performance and stability.
If all of that wasn't enough, then you'll be pleased to know that Corsair offer a lifetime warranty to give you extra peace of mind.
So that's about it for our top gaming RAM choice, a perfect mix of the following:
– Value
– Performance
– Looks
– Features
2. G.Skill Trident Z RGB
Technical Specifications of RAM Reviewed
Tested Latency | 16-16-16-36 |
Memory Type | DDR4 |
Memory Size | 32GB |
Voltage | 1.35V |
Format | Unbuffered DIMM |
Memory Clock Speed | 3,200 MHz |
Next on our list is a range of RAM from G. Skill and is the Trident Z RGB set of RAM. A slight change from the previous entry as we enter the field of premium products.
I'm sure you recognise the name or have heard about G. Skill. But let me reassure you that even though the price tag is high, you definitely get a cracking set of features and performance.
Again, like the Corsair Vengeance, the G. Skill Trident Z RGB range offers that perfect balance between performance and style. The RGB lighting across the top of the RAM is simply a delight to install, use and modify.
Moving onto the performance side, it features CAS latencies between the range of 14 and 19. Now this by itself is pretty damn impressive, but when you tag that in with the fact that it can achieve speeds of up to 4,266 then you realise how much of an achievement this gaming RAM is.
Whilst we did give the overall winner award to the Corsair Vengeance range, we would like to reiterate that the G. Skill Trident Z RGB range is definitely the best RAM in terms of performance but the pricing lets it down.
Much like the majority of RAM ranges that we cover in this list, the G. Skill Trident Z comes with XMP 2.0 support. Again, this means that overclockers will have the time of their life finding that balance between power and stability.
You'll also get a limited lifetime warranty and access to a G. Skill technical team that will always be on hand to provide support.
Wrapping up this entry, we can say firmly that is the best DDR4 RAM on the market in terms of performance. However, the price tag makes it fall just short of our top spot.
3. Kingston HyperX Predator
Technical Specifications of RAM Reviewed
Tested Latency | 9-11-9 |
Memory Type | DDR3 |
Memory Size | 16GB |
Voltage | 1.65V |
Format | Unbuffered DIMM |
Memory Clock Speed | 1,866 MHz |
Moving on to our number 3 spot we take another slightly strange turn. Looking at the Kingston HyperX Predator DDR3 range, we find ourselves in the midst of something special. We wanted to include this particular RAM on our list for anyone that requires DDR3 RAM. Simply put this is the best DDR3 gaming RAM on the market.
What makes it so special? Simply put, it's nothing to do with fancy RGB lighting as there actually isn't any but more to do with its performance capabilities. Overclockers will be cheering at the prospect of a Predator model Kingston RAM due to its ability to overclock with ease. XMP profiles allow you to expand the performance just that extra bit further.
Looking at latencies, this RAM range managed to achieve CL9 to CL11 and clock speeds which range from 1,866 MHz all the way to 2,666 MHz. Whilst it's not necessarily in the same ball park as the G. Skill Trident Z range, it's by no means a sub-par performance.
The only downside is the price tag, however, this has come down over the years due to DDR4 taking the top spot of gaming RAM. But if you're looking for a DDR3 range then look not further.
We'd also like to compliment the heat sink design that Kingston have gone with. It allows your RAM to stay cool and smooth even whilst at 100% performance.
Overall, another strong entry in our list and one which we're sure many DDR3 enthusiasts will love to get their hands on.
4. Kingston HyperX Fury
Technical Specifications of RAM Reviewed
Tested Latency | 14-14-14 |
Memory Type | DDR4 |
Memory Size | 8GB |
Voltage | 1.2V |
Format | Unbuffered DIMM |
Memory Clock Speed | 2,133 MHz |
Staying with the Kingston brand for another entry in our list, we have the Kingston HyperX Fury range. This is a special and much loved ranged for a variety of reasons.
Not only does this RAM feature auto-overclocking, this is where the RAM will automatically overclock itself to the highest published frequency (3,466 MHz). If you want to take matters in to your own hands, then you will be happy to know that this range is fully compatible with XMP 2.0.
Moving onto performance, this RAM range boasts some impressive figures, it comes in a range of CL15-19 latencies and clock speeds range from 2,400 MHz – 3,466 MHz.
The main reason, however, for adding it to our list of the best RAM for your PC is simply due to its price. The lower end 4GB, 1,600 MHz models can sometimes only set you back a measly sub-$30 which is just phenomenal. It really is our go to for any budget-build that we are considering, and it should be yours too!
DDR3 enthusiasts will be happy to know that this range of RAM also comes in DDR3 variants. So there's a little something for everyone with the Kingston HyperX Fury.
In short, this is yet another solid entry in our list of best gaming RAM, it's just another great balance between performance and cost. It even comes with low profile heat spreaders that can be used in builds which feature smaller cases.
5. Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB
Technical Specifications of RAM Reviewed
Tested Latency | 16-18-18-36 |
Memory Type | DDR4 |
Memory Size | 32GB |
Voltage | 1.35V |
Format | Unbuffered DIMM |
Memory Clock Speed | 3,200 MHz |
Last, but certainly not least is the Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB range that aims to provide you a premium experience.
If you are someone that has to go all out with their components and can only accept premium hardware then this is the choice for you. Corsair have done an incredible job with their new Dominator Platinum RGB range.
On the one hand, you have a range of RAM that can deliver high-end performance, and on the other RGB strips that will improve the look of any build.

For overclockers that want to take it one step further, you'll have full Intel XMP 2.0 support. For peace of mind you'll also be provided with a limited lifetime warranty.
There's not much that the Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB range doesn't provide. However, as good as this all sounds you will be paying a hefty premium to have all of these wonderful features. So if you need premium gaming RAM, then look no further.
